Laura Saladrigas Was A Perfect 4-for-4 At The Plate

BOX SCORE

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern University softball team (22-15, 4-9 SSC) and the Barry University Buccaneers (26-7, 12-1 SSC) were deadlocked heading into the sixth, 2-2, but four additional runs by the Bucs put a loss in loss column for NSU on Friday evening at Buccaneer Field to open the three-game series.

The Sharks totaled eight hits in the game and four game off the bat of Laura Saladrigas (So., Hollywood, Fla.) who recorded a perfect 4-for-4 night and scored both the Shark runs.

NSU started off on a positive note as senior Rachel Talenfeld (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) laid down a bunt single in the first inning. Saladrigas sent a 1-0 pitch to left to put runners on first and second with one out. After a fielder’s choice, Katie Kelton (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) dropped a bunt to Barry’s pitcher who threw the ball away, allowing Saladrigas to score the Sharks first run.

Barry evened the game back up after a Shark defensive error with two outs, platting home the tying run in the second.

NSU was not stirred, quickly regaining the lead as Saladrigas doubled to right and later advanced on a wild pitch. With two outs and Saladrigas 60-feet away, Kelton singled to right center assisting NSU to a 2-1 lead.

Hurler Lexi Sarradet (Sr., Miami, Fla.) retired the Bucs 3-up and 3-down in the third and fourth inning but it wasn’t until the fifth when Barry drove home the tying run with two outs.

The Buccaneers later scored four runs on five hits in the sixth, taking the lead and the win.

Sarradet (7-4) threw 6.0 innings, giving up nine hits and six runs while striking out two.

Brianna Smith (13-5) earned the win as she threw a complete game, scattering eight hits, walking one and striking out four.

The Sharks and Bucs collide in a doubleheader tomorrow at 1 p.m. as NSU looks to take the series with two wins.
